According to me, this current ear-worm & soon to be cereal, was popularized at my alma mater Elmira College in the 1990s. We sang it, along with other hits like Recollections Magic Sway, Simeon Benjamin & Elmira Women & Men, every night for almost a week in order to get a day free from classes. This day was the best day, a glorious day called Mountain Day. This is an absolutely true story, #truestory. I may or may not have, but definitely did, hum it underwater for three days. The Great Whites may or may not have been, but definitely were not, impressed.

Great White
One of 250+ Great White sharks identified off of Guadalupe Island. Photo courtesy of me and my nerves of steel.

More than 18 months ago, I had the good fortune to be asked to attend one of Mitch Sjolin's dive trips to coast of Guadalupe Island, Mexico. This was no ordinary dive trip. In fact, there were no fins or BCD's, just a 7mm divesuit, booties, a damn hood (seriously, dive hoods are the worst Toby!), surface supplied air, a cage and Great White Sharks! Yes, GREAT WHITE SHARKS!!!

Obligatory shark selfie.

Of all the funtivites I have partook, nothing elicited more questions about my sanity than this trip: "OMFG, are you crazy!?", "You are nuts!", "I would die of a heart attack. If you die of a heart attack, can I have your shoes?" To be totally honest, I wasn't even the least bit scared. Regular scuba diving is far more dangerous. Rock climbing? More peligroso. Both activities I enjoy and never once has someone asked for my Valentinos. That being said, I get it, look at those teeth!

If you are interested in swimming with sharks (the ones in the ocean deep, not in your office's conference room), I highly recommend Nautilus Liveaboards out of San Diego, California. Incredible staff, delicious food and sharks on sharks on sharks.
